OK, so there’s that…

I can’t remember the first time I heard that we (the US government) knew about Iraq’s use of chemical weapons in the Iran-Iraq War that last from 1980-88.  But Foreign Policy has the CIA documents.  So I guess there is no question that this is true.  Which leads me to a somewhat obvious conclusion in another area of the Middle East.

We cannot go after Assad and his use of chemical weapons if we are going to blatantly disregard its use by other countries.  Believe it or not, we supported Saddam Hussein in the Iran-Iraq War and so we just ignored his use of chemical weapons.  Which makes the invasion of Iraq in 2003 all the more hypocritical.  We really shouldn’t go down that road again.

Assad must be held to account for not only the civil war that he felt was necessary but his use of chemical weapons.  But it shouldn’t be the US that holds him to account for it.  He needs to be brought before the International Criminal Court or something similar.  I certainly don’t think that he should be allowed to get away with what he has done.  But, at the same time, the US is really in no position to punish him.

We really need to show some kind of consistency before we have any room to tell others what they can and cannot do.  The hypocrisy of the US government is really astounding.

Art?

Posted in Not Political, WTF? with tags , on September 5, 2013 by Black Pumpkin

Just because I can, I have decided that this blog will not just be about whatever political topic is getting under my skin.  And in that vein, I would like to direct your attention to this Slate article about an artist and some of her work.  Art is so damn subjective that it kinda boggles my mind.  I know next-to-nothing about art, so you can take my opinions on it with as many grains of salt as you need, but the crap in the article is just that: crap.

It’s not interesting or revealing or anything.  It looks like censorship, plain and simple.  In fact, it looks worse than censorship because censorship tends to leave more in the picture than these do.  These images completely dehumanize the women.  It is ridiculous on so many levels.

Maybe it’s just me.

The worst…

What One Can Find on Al-Jazeera

Posted in Economics, Morty's Question of the Week, WTF? on March 20, 2011 by Mort the Sport

I found this great tidbit on the English version of Al-Jazeera under the title “US: Waking Up to Class Politics“:

“A CEO, a union worker and a Tea Partier (a member of the emerging right-wing political movement) are at a table with 12 cookies. The CEO takes 11 and says to the Tea Partier: “Keep an eye on that union guy, he wants your cookie.”

I think it’s great.

And the lesson: Revolution is the response to inequity. Now the question is what is the response to an anesthetized society that is more or less comfortable with the one cookie it gets?

I know. What the hell am I doing reading Al-Jazeera?

Education by Pfizer

Posted in Domestic, WTF? with tags , , on April 1, 2010 by Black Pumpkin

Pfizer admitted that it paid 4500 doctors $35 million to help promote its products.  They are simply trying to “educate” the doctors to better help their patients.  Yes, of course, Pfizer is simply thinking about the patients.  This is certainly not about their bottom line.  Right!

I think it’s a simple conflict of interest and it should be illegal.  But the new health care bill “will require drug companies to publicise how much they pay doctors for consulting and speaking arrangements, as well as meals and other perks.”  That’s a step in the right direction but look how well disclosure has worked for our political system.  We know who is paying our representatives, but to say that it has no effect on them is laughably disingenuous or naive.

As long as we know who is bribing whom then all is well.  What a great system!

Is education a vice?

Check this out and tell me if you are with me in thinking that extremism might not be a vice to these idiots but apparently an education is.

Haiti and Prayers

Posted in WTF? with tags , , , on January 17, 2010 by Black Pumpkin

I know I’ve been gone for a while and since I know that there are so many of you out there that hang on my every word, you have been waiting, hoping, praying to have me back here.  So I am back.  I am not in a good mood, which is never a good time to write, but I am doing it anyway.

Unless you are truly living under a fucking rock, you know that a devastating earthquake hit Haiti on Tuesday and they are still reeling from its effects.  And since you know about Haiti, I’m sure that you have heard all of the newscasters, pundits and whoever else say, “The first thing we need to do is pray.  Then we need to help these people.  Send your donations…”

Well, you know what I say?  Fuck praying!  Obviously, God hates poor, black people.  That’s why He decided to kill as many as He could by causing an earthquake in one of the poorest countries in the world that just happens to be filled with black people.  So I don’t know who you plan on praying to, but you are probably wasting your time because He knows what He’s doing, and right now, He is killing poor, black people.  So quit praying because you are probably just pissing him off.

On the other hand, you should send some money to a relief organization because the poor, black people that God is trying to kill need help, not worthless fucking prayers.

By the way, we can only blame this on God because it is not like a hurricane that could be caused by global climate change.  No, this was an earthquake.  So it was God’s fault.  He did it.  And He did it because He hates poor, black people.  I don’t know why.  I haven’t figured that part out yet.  But I know He does because only someone who hates poor, black people so much could find the best way to kill as many as possible.

“Their infrastructure is really shitty already, why don’t I send them an earthquake, that’ll show them that I really hate them and want them to fucking die!  Yeah!”

If you have a better explanation, I would love to hear it.
